The Salone del Mobile renews dialogue with China through two new events in Shanghai and Hong Kong

With strategic alliances and innovative exhibition formats, the Salone del Mobile is once again turning its attention to China. In Shanghai, the event partners with West Bund Art & Design to promote Italian design, while in Hong Kong, the Salone del Mobile pays tribute to the 25 years of SaloneSatellite.

Following a record-breaking 2024 edition, the Salone del Mobile is embarking on a global tour to engage key markets for Made in Italy products. After a month-long focus on the United States in September, with Ferruccio Laviani's Italian Design: From Classic to Contemporary installation at Bloomingdale's, the spotlight now shifts to China in November.

The first stop is Shanghai, where, from November 8th to 10th, the Salone del Mobile will partner with West Bund Art & Design, one of Asia's premier art fairs. The key highlight will be The Orbit's Orbit, a performative installation created by artist Matilde Cassani, set within The Orbit, a striking building designed by Heatherwick Studio. This immersive experience will feature over 50 iconic Italian design pieces in a radial city format, enlivened by performances and conversations about design.

From November 11th to 21st, the second event takes place in Hong Kong at the Arts Pavilion in the West Kowloon Cultural District, where the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024 exhibition will showcase more than 100 projects from emerging designers. This homage to new global talent highlights the Salone del Mobile's commitment to nurturing young designers under 35, a mission spearheaded by Marva Griffin Wilshire.

The choice of China as a host country is strategic, with Italy confirmed as the largest furniture exporter to China in 2023, with exports valued at €479.01 million. Despite a tough real estate market, high-end Chinese demand for Italian design continues to rise.

The Salone del Mobile's international projects aim to strengthen relationships, foster cultural exchange, and expand design horizons. These events are part of a broader vision to enhance the global presence of Italian design while exploring the intersection of design, culture, and art.
