The New Classic of Laufen celebrates the timeless beauty of ceramics

With new pieces and colours, The New Classic celebrates the timeless beauty of ceramics. Designed by Marcel Wanders for LAUFEN, the collection expands with new finishes, colours, and accessories, elevating every space to an artistic level.

Bringing together Marcel Wander's flair and creativity with LAUFENS's mastery of raw materials, excellence and experience, The New Classic, as a complete bathroom solution, encompasses washstands, washbasin bowls, toilets, a bidet and bathtub, faucets, mirrors and accessories, as well as furniture, providing infinite possibilities for interior designers seeking to create unique and sophisticated environments.

Marcel Wanders' take on Neoclassicism, expressed here in The New Classic, maintains a consistent focus on indulgence, intimacy, humanity and everyday utility, while calling to mind the poetry and romance of bygone times.

The award-winning collection has seen new additions over the years: in 2023 the Dutch designer continued his exploration on the Saphirkeramik which resulted in three different decorations for the surface of the washbasins. This year, LAUFEN presents a new progress of the collection, dictated by the addition of new finishes for the faucets, new colours for the ceramic pieces and new accessories in Saphirkeramik.

Eclecticism and functionality
A comprehensive collection of premium-quality faucets puts the finishing touch to The New Classic bathroom. With their formal purity, they are the perfect match for both classic and ultra-contemporary styles. The conical shape with a polished chrome finish is characterized by a groove at the base of the mixer and a gap between the handle and the faucet. The line is enriched with the elegant version in PVD matt pale gold.

For the clean design of The New Classic faucets, characterized by grooves at the base of their bodies, LAUFEN has drawn on a very long and established manufacturing know-how.

A colour palette that inspires
The new ceramic colour palette, developed by Studio Roberto Sironi and presented at Milan Design Week 2024, reflects an in-depth historical study of colour in ceramics over the centuries. These shades, reimagined for a contemporary context, expand customisation options, allowing designers to create spaces that evoke elegance and timelessness.

The palette is the result of a research on the history of colour through ancient ceramic cultures over a period of time ranging from 3000 BC. to 1500 AD. An interdisciplinary work between art, design and archaeology that lasted three years, where the most refined colours of the ancient world were reworked to create contemporary and timeless nuances.

Elaborate attention to detail
Since its debut, the collection has also included a range of accessories made in Saphirkeramik, all characterized by curved and delicate lines. The collection includes a wall-mounted shelf, soap dish, toothbrush holder, toilet brush holder and an elegant oval mirror with the novel distinction of being framed in Saphirkeramik.

Today, new accessories have been added to the collection: a ceramic soap dispenser and a ceramic roll holder, which also acts as a storage unit.

The romantic side of ceramics
In 2023, five years after the launch of the collection, the designer has gone back to his work by enriching and embellishing the washbasins with an idea of texturing typical of his design language.

The three patterns provide a romantic language that aims to reach the most sophisticated tastes in design, elevating the ceramic material to a sculptural object. Cosmopolitan embodies an architectural and sophisticated approach. Its subtle and universal design makes it a perfect fit for modern and metropolitan spaces. The Bohemian pattern, on the other hand, is characterized by a hand-made feeling and natural essence. It offers a more experimental and casual style that suits those who prefer simplicity and a rustic touch. The Ornamental pattern is a mix of eclectic and traditional elements, with a refined and detailed design. It is perfect for those who appreciate beauty in the details and prefer a classic and elegant style.

The ongoing exploration of ceramic material has enabled LAUFEN to revolutionize the bathroom environment introducing either a very minimal language or an extremely decorative approach. The new interpretation of the innovative Saphirkeramik is as delicate as it is technically refined: a bas-relief where architecture and nature perfectly intertwine.
