Flanders Flooring Days, in addition to networking, means finding new inspiration and information, from participating companies and during seminars. Just like last edition, colour expert Judith Van Vliet will be present. Don't expect her to get away with naming a trend colour and a few generic tips. Judith is passionate about colours, what they mean to people and how they manifest themselves on different materials. Sustainability, culture, psychology and taste in one colour philosophy. During the fourth edition of Flanders Flooring Days, she talks about this in her seminar.
Asked what exactly Judith Van Vliet does, she replies: "I help clients with colour. With my company The Color Authority, I advise companies on colours and what they communicate. This is very much related to culture and psychology. Therefore, it can just get your message across on a deeper level. I seek out trending colours, create colour maps and research how colour works with materials. How a colour looks on your Pantone card is different from when you use it in your final product."

An introduction to colour theory
Besides her work for international clients such as Heimtextil, Comex and Braun, Judith shares her views in her podcast The Color Authority and as a speaker at trade events, such as Milan Design Week. In 2024, she brought her seminar "Do you speak colour?" at the third edition of Flanders Flooring Days. "What always strikes me is that people are afraid of colour. That's why I want to make them understand how personal colour is. I often start my seminars by asking them to think about the colour red. Depending on their past, context and culture, everyone has a different shade in mind."
Judith takes her audience through the colour family and what those hues represent in different colours. By explaining the history of colours, her audience understands how complex it can be to choose the right colours for their brand and products. "The context in which a colour is used is also crucial. Just think of the warm colours you see in Spain. Those are very pale if you put them in Belgian light. Choosing the right colours goes far beyond following trends and using the 'colour of the year' in your collection. People don't understand how colour works. That's why I'm there to explain colour theory and emphasise the importance of the material you need to use colour for."
A colourful network
Colour theory, trends and the impact of sustainability on colours are just some of the topics that will be covered during Judith's talk at the next edition of Flanders Flooring Days, from 2 to 5 June 2025. Then, everyone with a heart for flooring will gather to visit showrooms and marvel at national and international manufacturers at The Hub in Kortrijk Xpo. You can network on and off the show floor, with a gala evening and many opportunities to discover Burgundian Flanders with new and old business partners.
It is still possible to participate at The Hub in Kortrijk. Contact Cindy Collez to discuss the possibilities at [email protected].
