Umage partners with Special Minds, raising money and awareness for the Danish Autism Association

Umage has announced the limited-edition Asteria Floor Lamp, created in partnership with the Danish socio-economic company Special Minds—an organisation dedicated to helping people on the autism spectrum or with similar challenges achieve meaningful employment through education and partnerships.

The exclusive collection breathes new life into defective Asteria floor lamps. By refurbishing rather than producing new lamps, it reduces waste and supports conscious consumption, while showcasing the dedication and skills of the Special Minds team. With 100% of profits donated to the Danish Autism Association, every purchase directly supports their work in raising awareness and advocating for autism across all age groups in Denmark.

Upcycled Asteria Floor Lamps
Upcycled rather than discarded, the lamps are sent to the Special Minds workshop in northern Jutland, Denmark, where they are repaired, restored, and repainted in a limited-edition colour—marking this special collaboration.

'This collaboration is more than just a product—it's a mission to support inclusivity in the workforce,' according to the brand. The stories behind each lamp are part of what makes this project so impactful.

Dennis Leander, who is responsible for restoring the Asteria lamps at Special Minds, shares his personal journey with this work: 'Having a dedicated place, fixed tasks, and my own project that I'm responsible for has been transformative. Even on my harder days, working with the lamp project gives me the motivation to show up and feel accomplished,' says Dennis, who was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 34 and joined the Special Minds program earlier this year.

A partnership with purpose
'This partnership with Umage opens new doors for individuals who might otherwise face challenges in traditional work environments. It demonstrates that, with the right structure, there is space for everyone to thrive,' says Ditte Stern Bach, Special Minds Programme Lead. 'This initiative not only raises awareness but also shows other companies how impactful it can be to create inclusive jobs—that it's not necessarily difficult, that it can be done, and that you can find roles in every company that can be filled by these individuals. I hope that with this collaboration, we are able to tell that story.'

A lamp with meaning
The limited-edition UMAGE x Special Minds Asteria Floor Lamp offers not only a functional and elegant design piece, but also a meaningful way to contribute to a sustainable and inclusive future. Each lamp in this series represents a story of resilience, craftsmanship, and the power of thoughtful, inclusive design.
