This year's Belgian Designer of the Year, PaulinePlusLuis, exemplifies the coutry's enduring style. The duo, who studied applied arts and cabinetmaking in France, later reunited in Belgium, where they combined French artistry with Belgian precision. Their minimalist designs emphasise craftsmanship and feature simple, affordable materials.
'Congratulations to PaulinePlusLuis for their remarkable achievements, which continue to shape the future of design with their innovative approach!' says the organisers of Antwerp Design Week.
At Antwerp Design Week (ADW), visitors will experience the creative spirit of Belgian design through the work of many esteemed local designers and brands.
About PaulinePlusLuis
After studying applied arts and cabinetmaking in France, Pauline Capdo and Luis Bellenger reunited in Belgium, where they completed their education with industrial design studies at Saint-Luc Tournai and La Cambre. In 2017, they founded their studio in Brussels and dedicated themselves to creating furniture and objects, particularly lighting.
Attentive to their surroundings and everyday life scenes, paulineplusluis capture images that resonate with our collective memory and reinterpret them through projects with strong narratives. To bring their ideas to life, they primarily focus on simple, understated, and affordable materials, often borrowed from other fields and repurposed in unexpected ways. Their creations, both simple and poetic, sit at the crossroads of craftsmanship and industry, sometimes produced in collaboration with brands, sometimes self-produced, or even as custom-made projects. Designed with great efficiency, their objects make the most of the specific characteristics of the materials or processes used, optimising production and simplifying assembly.
