Cyberattack hits major retailers

A ransomware attack targeting U.S.-based supply chain software provider Blue Yonder has caused significant operational disruptions for major companies, including UK supermarket giants Sainsbury's and Morrisons, as well as U.S. coffee house chain Starbucks.

Sainsbury's, which operates a robust home division alongside its grocery arm, reported supply chain disruptions due to the attack. The retailer implemented contingency measures and has since restored its systems.

Blue Yonder, a global leader in digital supply chain transformation, serves over 3,000 customers, including Tesco, ASDA, DHL, Procter & Gamble, and Nestlé. The company uses AI-driven systems to optimise inventory management, logistics, and fulfilment operations.

The ransomware attack targeted Blue Yonder's managed services hosted environment, potentially compromising inventory management and distribution systems critical to maintaining supply chains.

In an official statement, Blue Yonder acknowledged the incident and assured its customers that recovery efforts were underway: 'Our investigation remains ongoing, but our priority is to ensure a safe and secure recovery. The company is collaborating with external cybersecurity experts to investigate and mitigate the attack's impact.'
