The Central Market Hall in Amsterdam-West has rolled out a 300-metre-long red carpet across a new walkway, giving the national monument a striking gesture to the city. This red carpet, devised by owner BOEi Foundation, aims to make the historic market hall more involved in city life.
Accessibility for the public
The red carpet runs across a new walkway that allows visitors to access the Central Market Hall without entering the Food Centre area, which is off limits for the time being. This initiative represents a temporary solution, as the businesses currently located in the Food Centre will be relocated to another part of the site. In time, 1,700 homes will be built on the current site.
With the red carpet, BOEi aims not only to improve accessibility to the market hall, but also to give a gift to the city, which is celebrating its 750th anniversary this year. The official opening took place on 8 November.
Events and entrepreneurs in the Central Market Hall
The Central Market Hall, a national monument, serves as a venue for a variety of events, including paddle tournaments, food truck festivals, the Winter Terrace, Holland Festival, ADE and the Architects' Ball. In addition, the market hall offers office space to 40 entrepreneurs operating in culinary, creative and circular sectors.
With the longest red carpet in the Netherlands, the Central Market Hall emphatically puts itself on the map as an important meeting place in Amsterdam. This project highlights the area's transition into a dynamic and accessible city district.
