DFS has confirmed that its near-term emissions reduction target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company has also committed to establishing long-term emissions reduction goals in line with climate science, aiming for Net Zero emissions by 2050.
The approved plan outlines DFS's strategy to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and supply chain, demonstrating its dedication to reducing its environmental footprint.
The company's Sofa Cycle framework, introduced in 2020, takes a comprehensive approach to understanding its environmental impact, setting an objective to evolve into a circular business.
The Sofa Cycle
This approach is guided by the principles of the circular economy, which seeks to extend the lifespan of products through reuse, recycling, or remanufacturing. This ensures that waste becomes a resource for new processes. In contrast to the traditional linear economy, which extracts materials, manufactures products, and ultimately discards them, the circular model aims to keep materials in use for as long as possible.
The Sofa Cycle serves as a visual representation of the brand's shared group-level objectives. It enables each of the company's businesses to develop tailored activities and policies suited to their brand, scale, and customer base. This framework is flexible and will evolve as the company's business adopts more circular practices, allowing it to advance as sustainable practices progress.
While the Sofa Cycle primarily addresses the product-related aspects of business, the company recognizes that people-focused initiatives are also crucial. It acknowledges that one cannot tackle all environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects at once, so it is taking a phased approach.
