As 2024 draws to a close, Danish kitchen manufacturer Kvik looks back on an exciting year. With the introduction of three new kitchen designs and a first furniture collection, Kvik was all about timeless Danish design. Every detail was carefully considered, from materials and shapes to colours and accessories. Time to take a closer look at Kvik's latest designs.
Driven by the dream of developing affordable designer kitchens that last for years, founder Knud Troelsen started the Kvik brand in 1983. Anno 2024, this philosophy still lives on. Although, this year with a new mission. Claus Johnsen, head of design at Kvik: "We want to show that we are more than just a kitchen brand."
1. First step towards holistic offering Danish design
In June, Kvik launched its first ever furniture collection: KvikLiving. "With this, we took the first step towards a holistic range of Danish design," says Johnsen. The collection consists of two dining chairs and a lounge chair, matching the look and feel of Kvik and made of FSC-certified oak wood and oak veneer that is recyclable at the end of its useful life. "We are incredibly proud of the result. This coming year, we will expand the collection further. Soon we will launch our first dining table."
This year, KvikLiving was exhibited for the first time at the Circular Furniture Days, an event that is part of the international design festival 3daysofdesign. "Also called the Valhalla for the true design lover. That we were allowed to be part of this shows that we have earned our place within the Danish design market."
2. Smooth, organic shapes'
To allow customers to personalise their dream kitchen, Kvik offers a diverse palette of handles, worktops, taps and sinks. "Every year we try to renew our range of kitchen accessories," Johnsen says. "This year, the focus was on smooth, organic shapes. This softens the geometry of the room and gives a fluid and natural aesthetic." The new handle TUB is an example of this. "By incorporating the new accessories into our classic design Veda, we were able to give it a new retro look."
3. Brand new design
Kvik released a brand new design this year: Evento. Available in arizona beige and white. "Organic shapes are also central to this design," Johnsen explains. "By combining this with warm tones and integrated handles, you get a visually soothing and tactile experience." Especially for Evento, Kvik launched an easily customisable wall panel. "Customers themselves can replace the backplate in the integrated hanging handle for a new colour, such as beige or apricot. So you can easily customise the kitchen to suit your needs at the time."
4. Noliam combines warm with cold tones
A few years ago, Kvik sold almost only white kitchens. Nowadays, this has changed. "Recently, there has been a lot of demand for wood and earthy tones," says Johnsen. "Elements that also go well together, by the way. You can see this in our updated design Noliam. In it, we combine wood with the colour arizona beige. By combining cold and warm tones, you create a design that radiates both tranquillity and luxury."
5. 'Explore how to make it even better'
A kitchen should not only look stylish according to Kvik, but also consider future generations. For example, the protective film layer of the kitchen cabinets is made from recycled PET bottles as standard, as many products as possible are transported in flat packs and Kvik deliberately chooses timeless designs so that they last for years.
Johnsen: "We are constantly investigating how things can be done even better. This year we did that too. For example, we have launched a new tool that provides insight into the environmental impact of our products." In a personalised calculation, customers are shown how many recycled PET bottles and recycled wood are in their new kitchen and what the carbon footprint is. "In this way, we want to help our customers make an informed decision."
