For the approximately 650 guests - including more than 150 children - the presents were already given on the first Advent! A good three weeks before Christmas Eve, the XXXLutz furniture store and its international aid organization RED CHAIRity, together with Hendrikje Balsmeyer, Peter Maffay and his band, and TV chef Nelson Müller, created XXXL moments for eternity.
At the exclusive charity event on the outskirts of Hamburg, there were not only culinary delights, but also literary and musical treats: Hendrikje Balsmeyer and Peter Maffay took everyone on little Anouk's adventure journey with a reading from their "Anouk" children's books, and Germany's most successful musician and his band played an unplugged concert in a real living room atmosphere. Maffay also played the songs from the Anouk musical for a wide audience for the first time on the XXXLutz stage. This had previously only been reserved for a small circle.
'Something as magical as today doesn't happen every day,' said Hendrikje Balsmeyer and Peter Maffay, enthusiastic about the extraordinary event in aid of the Peter Maffay Foundation. 'Today we're not interested in a large selection, top service and certainly not in the best prices on the furniture market,' said Helmuth Götz, member of the management team at XXXLutz Germany: 'We're interested in giving some of our success back to the people in our society who don't have their own destiny in their hands and who unfortunately don't have their place on the sunny side of life: We're interested in children, the smallest and weakest among us!'
XXXLutz, RED CHAIRity and Peter Maffay have been in a close partnership for 24 years, the charity event in Kaltenkirchen was already the 78th joint event - over the years, donations in seven-figure amounts have been collected. Concerts in the furniture stores with the Red Chair, cooking events, children's parties and readings have been inspiring people for over two decades and ensure that children in need are better off and can take a break from their dreary everyday lives thanks to the foundation. And Peter Maffay made Helmuth Götz a real XXXL promise: 'There are short and successful partnerships, but this one with XXXLutz stands for incredible loyalty, great creativity and enormous sustainability. That is anything but a matter of course. We will now complete the 100 events together and continue to help together!'
A word that Helmuth Götz was happy to accept and made a promise of his own: 'With this extraordinary event today, we have made it very clear that we think and act creatively and imaginatively. And I can promise that we will remain creative together to achieve our big common goal: helping children!'
In addition to the monetary support through exclusive events such as the one now being held at XXXLutz in Kaltenkirchen, the XXXLutz furniture stores have also provided long-term support in other ways, such as by supplying and assembling furniture for Peter Maffay's foundation houses in Germany, Spain and Romania, and they will continue to do so with great energy. 'It is usually just small ideas that make a big difference,' emphasised Helmuth Götz.
