Sustainability shines at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2025

Materials, sustainability, and innovation will take centre stage at three remarkable design bars presented by Fyra, Emma Olbers, and All Matters Studio during the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February 2025. Each concept showcases distinct approaches to materials and design while offering spaces for dialogue and inspiration.

Paper Bar: A Celebration of Creative Potential
Helsinki-based agency Fyra introduces Paper Bar, a concept built entirely around the versatility of paper. Inspired by the fair's theme, 'Connecting the Dots,' the design highlights paper as a material integral to architecture, fashion, and the arts. Fyra describes it as 'capturing the moment before creation: a blank canvas, a space where ideas begin to emerge.' The innovative use of paper exemplifies resource-conscious design while fostering connections.

Paper Bar also serves as the venue for Stockholm Furniture Fair's talks programme, curated with Dezeen and Disegno Journal. The bar features textiles by Astrid, sustainable seating from Vaarnii and Artek, and a Circle Back carpet by Ege, showcasing material reuse and sustainability.

Material Dialogues: A Platform for Circular Innovation
Emma Olbers presents Material Dialogues, a hybrid bar and exhibition promoting sustainability and circular systems. Designed to provoke meaningful discussions, the space addresses the challenges of climate change and highlights innovative materials while quantifying greenhouse gas emissions linked to its design.

Olbers explains, 'This is an exhibition based on areas I personally want to explore. I've spoken to experts and searched for solutions, aiming to inspire collaboration and creative conversations. Above all, I hope it fosters dialogue that helps make sustainable choices easier.'

Material Dialogues will also host Industry Talks, a seminar series focused on sustainability, in partnership with the Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry. Chef Paul Svensson complements the space with a low-emission menu, while organisations such as Stena Recycling Consulting and Papershell provide expertise on circularity and bio-carbon solutions.

En Bar Bara: Simplicity and Serenity
All Matters Studio presents En Bar Bara ('Just a Bar'), this year's Greenhouse bar. Designed as a tranquil retreat from the fair's bustle, the space balances artistry and functionality with a focus on timeless design.

Fredrik Widén, Founding Partner at All Matters Studio, notes, 'We prefer simplicity, letting materials speak for themselves. Our six-metre Frame_05 table in aluminium and natural stone serves as the centrepiece, alongside the minimalist Pinne_04 chair.' Partnering with Bolon, the studio incorporates materials from Bolon's Elements collection into walls, flooring, and seating in a natural colour palette.
