Ukraine aims to increase furniture exports by 30 percent in 2025

Ukraine is aiming to boost its furniture exports by 30% in 2025, as announced by the Ukrainian Export Alliance (UEA). The alliance has outlined plans to expand into new markets, build strategic partnerships, and adopt sustainable innovations to enhance the global presence of Ukrainian furniture. Currently, Europe accounts for 96% of Ukraine's furniture exports, but efforts are underway to penetrate markets in North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

To achieve its goals, the UEA plans to establish partnerships with leading distributors in Europe and North America. Agreements with Scandinavian and German retailers are in progress to strengthen the presence of Ukrainian craftsmanship in established markets. Recent initiatives to forge relationships in the United States include the Lviv Furniture Cluster's membership in the National Kitchen & Bath Association's Global Connect Strategic Alliance Partner program, designed to facilitate global market exploration and knowledge exchange. Additionally, ten members of the Lviv Furniture Cluster showcased their work for the first time at the 2024 Boutique Design New York event, which attracts international hospitality design professionals.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war, Ukraine's furniture industry has shown remarkable resilience. By late 2023, the sector included 11,141 registered operators, three-quarters of which were small to medium-sized enterprises or individual entrepreneurs. The Volyn region was a standout, with an average of 352 employees per company. The industry faces several obstacles, including supply chain disruptions, dependency on imported materials, rising production costs, logistical challenges, limited government support, and regulatory issues. However, key opportunities lie in expanding to high-growth regions like the Middle East and Asia, adopting advanced manufacturing technologies to meet global standards, and capitalising on Europe's demand for sustainable, high-quality furniture.
