Kitchen trends expected to dominate 2025

As the year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the trends that have defined the past 12 months. Some trends have stood the test of time, while others will be left behind. In this context, Kailee Blalock and Taylor Troia from House of Hive Design Co, experts in residential and commercial interior design, have identified key "ins and outs" for kitchen aesthetics expected to dominate in 2025. Their insights offer refreshing perspectives, steering clear of the predictable and pointing toward a more curated, yet timeless, approach to kitchen design.

The focus in 2025 appears to move away from dramatic, trend-driven overhauls towards a more refined and evolved aesthetic. Among the key elements highlighted are textured glass, unlacquered metals, Zellige tiles, and warm-stained woods. These features represent a shift towards a more natural, artisanal feel, blending both form and function seamlessly.

One of the stand out predictions involves textured glass. In recent years, ribbed or fluted glass has gained popularity, particularly in cabinet fronts, for its ability to break up monotony. However, in 2025, designers are leaning toward softer, more organic textures such as waved designs or Flemish glass. This shift introduces a handcrafted, artisanal element, adding depth and refinement to kitchens without fully exposing their contents. Such subtle patterns make maintenance easier, providing a practical yet aesthetically pleasing solution. Home-owners need not fully replace glass-fronted cabinetry to achieve this look – adhesive films can be a quick and effective option.

Similarly, the use of unlacquered metals is gaining ground. This trend moves away from polished and high-shine finishes towards more antique, lived-in metal surfaces. Copper, once a favourite for its warm tones, now paves the way for brass and iron that develop a patina over time. These materials add a rustic charm and evoke a sense of character and history. Faucets, cabinet hardware, and smaller decorative accents, such as vases, are all ripe for incorporating these metal finishes.

Zellige tiles continue to hold their place in kitchen design, but their application is expanding. Traditionally seen as bold back splash options, Zellige tiles are now making their way into baseboards, trims, and unexpected corners, creating unique focal points. Designers are experimenting with richer tones like deep browns, maroons, and jewel-like hues, which add sophistication and moodiness to the space. Monochromatic patterns also remain popular, offering a clean, sophisticated contrast to brighter kitchen palettes.

Another significant shift for 2025 is the return to warm-stained wood. White oak, once synonymous with sleek, modern kitchens, is making way for deeper, richer wood tones. Exotic woods like burled or zebra wood are gaining traction, creating more textured and layered designs. The warmth of these tones brings a sense of cosiness and timeless elegance to kitchens, shifting away from the minimalistic, lighter aesthetics of recent years.
