Flanders Flooring Days, the epicentre for flooring professionals, is opening its doors for the fourth year in a row. This year, there is an extra focus on sustainability - a theme that is also gaining importance in the flooring and textile sector. Two pioneering projects, CISUFLO and Living Lab Carpet, reveal the possibilities of sustainable floor design. As a professional, discover all about it during Flanders Flooring Days or share your expertise at your own stand.
From 2 to 5 June 2025, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and architects from all over Europe will descend on The Hub in Kortrijk Xpo or the showrooms of participating manufacturers. The chance for you to be completely up-to-date with the latest trends in hard and soft flooring. Centexbel, the Belgian research centre for textiles and plastics, is also present. They will share their vision on the sustainable future of flooring and textile technologies with their own stand and fascinating seminars. Want to participate in the fair yourself? Then book your spot in The Hub soon.
CISUFLO sets the tone for circular flooring
The European Green Deal, launched in 2019 by Ursula von der Leyen, aims for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050 and a circular economy in which raw materials remain in circulation for as long as possible. The flooring industry is also doing its bit, including through the CISUFLO project. CISUFLO, short for Circular Sustainable Floor Coverings, focuses on the circularity of carpet, vinyl and laminate. Centexbel and eighteen European partners joined forces for this purpose and have since taken solid steps towards a greener flooring sector.
The project focuses on materials that are easy to recycle and stimulates the reuse of flooring with new recycling methods. With the smart product information system ePRODIS, you will soon trace the entire life cycle of a floor, so you know exactly how sustainable a floor really is. Moreover, CISUFLO is developing new ways to remove or replace floors easily, without waste or pollution. Companies that also want to take the circular route can count on a practical guidance tool. Curious? Drop by The Hub for more information.
A new life for old carpets with Living Lab Carpet
Did you know that 1,200 tonnes of carpet end up in landfills every year in Belgium? Most carpets are written off after ten years and end up as combustible waste. A shame, because it is often unnecessary. With Living Lab Carpet, supported by VLAIO, worn-out carpets are given a second or even third life.
Living Lab Carpet investigates where old carpets end up and what condition they are in. The goal? Finding out whether they are still suitable for reuse, repair or renovation. From smart designs that encourage reuse to new business models and logistics solutions: Living Lab Carpet takes a close look at the entire chain. A comprehensive training plan pulls all stakeholders in the chain on board. Living Lab Carpet thus reduces environmental impact by 40% and resource consumption by 60%.
