Air travel is often a source of stress for passengers, with issues such as limited legroom and disputes over seat recline heightening tensions. Reclining chairs in economy class exacerbate this, particularly for those sitting behind, as reported by The Express US.
In their petition, La-Z-Boy stated, 'Do the upright thing. Recline at home. Not on your flight. I commit to reserving the act of reclining for my home and will not engage in reclining aboard any and all future flights.' A Harris Poll revealed that 41% of people support the idea of banning reclining seats altogether.
To encourage participation, La-Z-Boy is offering a sweepstakes' entry for those who sign the petition, with the chance to win a recliner and $500 in flight credits. The campaign, described by Nelly Martinez Garza, Senior Director of Consumer Marketing at La-Z-Boy, as 'simple: just because you can recline doesn't mean you always should,' has sparked discussions about the practicality of reclining chairs on flights.
La-Z-Boy's marketing team highlighted the unpopularity of reclining chairs on flights and emphasised the campaign's goal of generating attention and debate around the issue. As travel discomfort continues to be a concern for many, La-Z-Boy aims to make reclining at home the preferred option, rather than on cramped aeroplane seats.
