December 2024 saw a significant number of new business registrations within the furnishing industry of the United Kingdom, with a total of 459 new company incorporations recorded by Companies House.

Among the registrations, 122 were for new furniture and carpet retailers, while 93 were for manufacturers. The data indicates a strong presence in both furniture retail and lighting, with 94 incorporations, and carpet and floor coverings retail contributing 28.
Furniture manufacturers accounted for 67 registrations, covering a wide range of products including kitchen, office, shop, and upholstered furniture. Meanwhile, carpet manufacturers registered two companies, while the manufacture of floor and wall coverings resulted in 67 new filings. No new wallpaper manufacturers were registered.
In the mattress sector, four companies were newly incorporated, and the soft furnishings category saw 20 registrations. Wholesale furniture, carpet, and lighting businesses accounted for 39 incorporations, while agents selling furniture and household goods totalled 120 registrations. Furniture repair businesses registered 18 new companies.
These figures highlight a robust level of activity within the furnishing sector, with over 400 new businesses established in December 2024, reflecting ongoing growth and development in the industry.
