Laufen explains the bathroom of 2025

How is the most intimate space in our home evolving? In an age characterised by constant busyness and availability, the bathroom takes on a new meaning as a personal retreat. It is becoming a place of calm amid the chaos - a haven where we can reconnect with ourselves and recharge

"We are witnessing a transformation in bathroom architecture. At LAUFEN, we no longer see the bathroom as a functional space, but as an open living environment that redefines the boundaries between wellness and personal space," says Marc Viardot, Marketing and Design Director, Roca Group.

Bathroom architecture with a human touch
This philosophy puts people at the centre of design and creates a new aesthetic of tranquillity. Harmoniously coordinated, clean lines promote a sense of relaxation, while the choice of materials reinforces this approach: nature-inspired surfaces, warm wood tones, functional textiles and an intentionally minimalist design style that invites users to linger. New colour palettes in black, anthracite and soft earthy tones expand the design possibilities and combine beautifully with high-quality materials such as brushed stainless steel and glass. The result is a harmonious and elegant atmosphere that perfectly balances function and form.

For those looking for a bolder bathroom design, the Kartell - LAUFEN collection offers a different approach. This collection combines iconic Italian design with Swiss precision, with unexpected vibrant colours and transparent materials. Lightweight, translucent elements are combined with geometric bathroom ceramics, transforming the bathroom into an expressive living space. A perfect example of how the new era of bathroom architecture adapts to diverse lifestyle needs.

Whether timelessly elegant or vibrantly expressive - the focus is always on the individual and their unique needs. This holistic approach is also reflected in technical innovations: the new Silent Flush vortex flushing technology, for example, reduces noise levels to a minimum, contributing to greater acoustic comfort in the bathroom. "In a fast-paced world, we need spaces where we can slow down," explains Viardot. "The modern bathroom becomes such a place - through design that conveys a discreet sense of security and technology."

Building blocks for a climate-friendly bathroom
Sustainability is no longer a trend or an option - it is a necessity, and LAUFEN is committed to contributing to it. Setting new standards with the world's first electric tunnel kiln for sanitaryware: the company now produces ceramic washbasins with zero CO2 emissions at its factory in Gmunden, Austria. For builders and remodelers, this means they can not only design their bathrooms aesthetically and functionally, but also take environmental impact into account.

Inviting materiality
The bathroom is transforming into a living space - a trend that is particularly reflected in material choices. The new ARUN bathroom furniture collection, for example, features real wood veneer in light oak or elegant walnut, combined with stone-look ceramic worktops. The distinctive grain of the veneer and the tactile texture of the worktops embrace an aesthetic of imperfection. A palette of 40 matt lacquer colours and three exclusive metallic shades offers additional design flexibility. ARUN is manufactured in Europe using wood materials sourced from certified sustainable European forests.

Smart and sensual: the new bathroom generation
Digitisation is unlocking entirely new ways to create personal moments of relaxation, with the shower leading the way as a multisensory experience. "When daily life is demanding and there is little time for a spa visit, moments of well-being at home become even more important," says Marc Viardot. Modern shower systems engage all the senses, combining light, sound and different water scenarios into customisable experiences. Intuitive touchscreens allow users to access personalised wellness moments - from a refreshing morning routine to a soothing evening ritual.

The trend towards intelligent personalisation is also evident in other bathroom products. Modern shower toilets such as the CLEANET ALVIA can be configured via an app, allowing users to save individual profiles for settings such as water temperature, spray intensity and seat temperature. Discreetly integrated into a familiar design, the technology fits perfectly with bathroom architecture that prioritises people and their well-being.

Preview ISH 2025
The upcoming ISH, the world's leading bathroom trade fair in Frankfurt am Main, will serve as a showcase for these developments. In the stand designed by Norwegian transdisciplinary studio Snøhetta, LAUFEN brings trends to life under the theme "Our Planet Matters" with: sustainable materials, modular and digital concepts and a reinvented sense of comfort in the bathroom. The message is clear: the bathroom of tomorrow is more than the sum of its functions. It is a highly personalised living space that seamlessly integrates technology, sustainability and individual well-being.
