Amanda DeWitt, from Texas, USA, shared her remarkable find in a TikTok video after purchasing a Louis XVI buffet cabinet at a fraction of its usual cost. Normally retailing for thousands of pounds, Amanda revealed she acquired the antique for 'one ninth of what it's usually being sold for'.

'Obviously I bought it,' she told her viewers. 'I was finally able to get my hands on it this morning. It's in my house, she's absolutely stunning—perfect.'

Amanda explained that after moving the cabinet into her home, she inspected its condition by opening the various drawers and compartments. To her shock, one cabinet contained an unexpected surprise: 13 bright orange Hermès boxes and a blue box from Tiffany's.

'Please look what I found when I unlocked one of the cabinets,' she exclaimed in the video, showing the hidden contents.

Inside the Hermès boxes, she discovered a complete set of Hermès china, including 12 plates, all in pristine condition. The plates, featuring an elegant golden pattern, are sold individually for prices ranging from £115 to £375 according to the Hermès website. She also uncovered smaller plates for desserts or salads, all bearing the same luxurious design.

'I mean, beautiful. Literally what dreams are made of,' she said while showcasing the collection.

Uncertain whether the china had been left behind accidentally or intentionally, Amanda contacted the seller to inform them of her discovery. In a follow-up video, she revealed that the seller had requested the items back. Amanda captioned the update: 'It was fun while it lasted… but they did in fact ask to come pick up everything after I messaged them about my discovery lol.'

The video quickly went viral, with viewers sharing their astonishment and their own tales of unexpected discoveries. One person recounted finding $1,200 in cash inside a kitchen island purchased from Facebook Marketplace. 'Messaged the lady, and she had no idea it was there,' they added.

Others questioned how such treasures could go unnoticed by sellers. One user commented: 'I'll never understand why people don't check the drawers of things before selling them. I find it a bit audacious to ask for the items back.' Another wondered whether the plates had added noticeable weight during the cabinet's move.

Some viewers shared their experiences with similar finds. 'I bought a china cabinet at an auction and opened it up to find tons of solid silver pieces,' one person said. Despite attempts to return the silver, the previous owner could not be contacted.

Amanda's discovery has sparked debate about whether items found in purchased furniture should belong to the buyer or be returned to the seller. Regardless, her video has captivated viewers, offering a glimpse of the extraordinary surprises that can sometimes accompany second-hand purchases.
