Salina, a hidden gem nestled in the Mediterranean just north of Sicily, is a place shaped by both nature and time. Raised from the sea by volcanic forces, the island has been softened by centuries of weathering, creating a landscape where simple beauty thrives. The inhabitants, shaped by their surroundings, live with a quiet resourcefulness, their lives defined by practicality. Structures on Salina are crafted from weathered wood, tangled vines, and piled stone, while the ever-present fishing nets draw shoals from the crystal-clear waters at dawn and bring them to dining tables by sunset.
It is this unique island that inspired designers Matteo Thun and Benedetto Fasciana in creating their latest Gloster collection. The duo sought inspiration from the elemental materials and forms that define Salina, as well as the resourcefulness and simplicity that characterise the island's inhabitants. Moving away from traditional lines and styles, Thun and Fasciana designed a collection that captures the essence of Salina's natural beauty.
The Salina collection's signature lounge chair features four teak poles marking its corners. These poles are connected by fibre-wrapped frames, with mesh panels that evoke the image of both vines and nets. The innovative outdoor fibre used in the panels has a natural texture that creates an open, woven design, both gentle and familiar in its appearance.
Beneath the mesh, the chair's teak base is refined with stainless steel accents, while deeply inviting cushions provide ultimate comfort. The lounge chair is just the beginning, as the collection expands to include a matching sofa, corner units, and chaise lounge, all of which reflect the same balance of style and comfort. A tessellating square coffee table and ottoman complement the seating, along with a smaller square ottoman and two options for round occasional tables.
Each piece in the Salina collection maintains a harmonious balance between aesthetic appeal and functional design. With its understated elegance and natural materials, it offers a perfect blend of comfort and style that draws directly from the island of Salina's timeless, elemental beauty.
