Leadership change signals new direction for meeting room innovator

A Danish company specialising in meeting room solutions has announced a significant leadership and ownership restructuring as it seeks to solidify its position in the market. The changes come amidst efforts to strengthen sustainability, drive innovation, and expand internationally.

MuteBox, which focuses on soundproof meeting rooms and telephone booths for open-plan offices, has appointed Thomas Stephansen as its new CEO. With over 25 years of experience in the design and lifestyle industry, including senior roles in the furniture sector, Stephansen brings a wealth of commercial expertise. He emphasised the importance of sustainability and quality in modern workplaces while outlining plans to enhance the company's international presence.

This leadership transition follows the resignation of former CEO and co-founder Jonas Kjemtrup in mid-2024. In the interim, COO Inge Marie Hjort stepped into the role. The company, founded in 2019 by Kjemtrup and Thomas Keller, is now solely owned by John Bjerrum Nielsen A/S. Previously, Bjerrum Nielsen held a 60% stake, with the remaining shares divided between the founders.

Chairman of the Board Anders Rosendahl Poulsen expressed confidence in Stephansen's leadership, citing his alignment with the company's vision of sustainable growth and innovation. Poulsen also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing founders, stating that the new ownership structure provides a robust foundation for future development.

Despite these changes, MuteBox faces financial challenges. The company reported a loss of 3.5 million DKK in its most recent fiscal year, adding to an accumulated deficit of 8.6 million DKK since 2022. Investments in market expansion, particularly in Germany and the UK, have yet to yield substantial returns.

MuteBox products are manufactured in Denmark and distributed across nine European countries, including Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom. As the company transitions to its new leadership and ownership structure, the focus will be on creating sustainable solutions, fostering innovation, and forming strategic partnerships domestically and internationally.

This transformation marks a critical moment for MuteBox as it seeks to navigate financial hurdles and secure its future in the competitive workspace solutions market.
