The Stedelijk Chair is the first chair by Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis. Commissioned by the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, renowned for its design collection, the Stedelijk Chair was born from a specific need—to create a timeless seat for the Stedelijk Museum's new entrance sculpture hall and bar area designed by architect Paul Cournet.

This visual presence is aided by a versatile and stackable structure fit for the different locations of the museum. Marcelis merges timeless design and sculpture in a chair that is lightweight and made of a 100% aluminium body. Its flowing silhouette compliments the smooth white form of the Stedelijk Museums exterior and the different renewed spaces.
'For the Stedelijk's new entrance hall, the refurbishment had to be both timeless and radical. We aimed to create a space that can express its inner qualities: being a sculpture hall as well as a public space for the city of Amsterdam and allow all kinds of new activities to emerge from it.' comments Paul Cournet, architect and designer of Don Quixote Sculpture Hall.
The STEDELIJK chair showcases Marcelis' design prowess with an uninterrupted line of aluminium and stripped-back design. It's a striking design statement for the museum's fresh new spaces.
