Parquet and Parquet vinyl manufacturer Lamett Europe is taking a major step towards sustainability by switching to barge transport for the supply of import containers from the port of Antwerp to Zwevegem. After a few successful test shipments, the company decided to deploy this approach structurally, resulting in impressive environmental gains.
CEO Bruno Descamps is at home in all markets.
The switch to barge transport has already led to an 85% reduction in CO2 emissions and prevented 70,000 truck kilometres on the Antwerp-Zwevegem route. On an annual basis, Lamett expects to save between 250,000 and 300,000 kilometres by doing so, a distance equivalent to driving around the world about seven times.
CEO Bruno Descamps recently visited LCZ, the company responsible for handling and transporting containers at the Zwevegem terminal. After an extensive tour and watching the operations, Descamps gave his approval to this sustainable logistics solution. "This decision is another step towards our goal of making Lamett Europe even more sustainable," said the CEO.
