AkzoNobel cuts a sixth of its jobs in France

Paint group AkzoNobel has announced a sweeping reorganisation that will see almost a sixth of its jobs in France disappear. In total, about 200 of the 1,300 jobs will be cut as part of a plan to "modernise and optimise operations in the country."

An important part of the reorganisation is the closure of part of the Sikkens Solutions paint shops. These will be partly transferred to independent operators. The paint group, known for brands such as Sikkens and Flexa, wants to operate more efficiently in a challenging market in this way.

As well as cutting jobs, AkzoNobel has also announced that it will invest €22 million to modernise its production site in Montataire. The company has now submitted the reorganisation plan to French trade unions. The planned changes should be completed by the end of next year.

Global reorganisation
The move follows an earlier announcement by AkzoNobel in 2024, in which the company announced it was cutting around 2,000 office jobs worldwide. At the time, some 35,000 people worked at the group.
With this modernisation, AkzoNobel hopes to better adapt to changing market conditions and competitive pressures in the paint and coatings sector.
