ScS seeks new leadership after senior departures

ScS, the UK's second-largest sofa chain, is searching for a new leadership team following a series of high-profile departures at the start of the year. The company, which was acquired by the Italian upholstery conglomerate Poltronesofà early last year, has enlisted recruitment officials to fill several key positions, including the role of commercial director, previously held by James Heese. The position is being advertised with a salary of £150,000, and candidates are expected to be fluent in Italian, with at least 10 years of experience in a senior commercial role, preferably in the furniture or big-ticket retail sectors.

In addition to the commercial director, Poltronesofà is also looking to hire a retail director and a new finance director, both of whom must speak Italian. These roles, too, come with a salary of £150,000. The new finance director will report directly to the European CFO. ScS is also recruiting an in-house legal counsel, with a focus on drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, particularly real estate lease agreements. The legal counsel position offers a salary of £80,000.

Gavin Vose is the only member of the pre-takeover board still serving on the statutory board. Other executives who have recently departed include Marie Liston, Lucy Clough, and Dean Weston, all of whom followed CEO Steve Carson out of the company. In their absence, several middle managers have been promoted to fill the leadership vacuum.

Industry speculation has suggested that at least two former ScS executives are working with the retailer's new owner, but sources within the company have denied these claims. As the recruitment process progresses, the retailer is aiming to stabilise its leadership team following the significant changes at the top.
