The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of several dressers sold by Walmart after discovering that they pose a significant risk of tip-over and entrapment, which could result in injuries or even fatalities, particularly to children. The dressers in question are the 12-drawer Gikpal models, sold on Walmart.com through ONME Direct. According to the CPSC, these dressers are unstable if not anchored to a wall, violating both performance and warning label requirements set out by the STURDY (Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers) Act.

As of now, no injuries have been reported. However, the recalled dressers were sold between January and November 2024 and approximately 800 units were distributed. The dressers, which were sold for around $91 each, were manufactured in China by Shenzhen Leader-Union Technology Co. The affected models include HI1437_13, HI1437_14, and HI1437_02. These dressers come in rustic brown, black, or white wood finishes, with a black frame, fabric drawers, and black handles. Measuring 31 inches wide, 12 inches deep, and 48 inches tall, they weigh approximately 35 pounds. Consumers can identify these items by the model number and the label that reads "Fabric Dresser" and "Made in China" on the product packaging.
The recall affects consumers who have not properly anchored their dressers to the wall, as these units are prone to tipping. The CPSC is advising anyone with these products to stop using them immediately unless they are securely attached to the wall. ONME Direct and Walmart are working to contact all known sellers directly, offering refunds for those who have purchased the dressers.
