Gencork and ZHA launches Thalia at Maison & Objet

'Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the sustainable cork walls offer functional benefits'

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has partnered with Gencork to create a series of striking cork feature walls for its London office, combining the natural properties of cork with advanced computational design. Spanning four storeys, the bespoke wall designs are based on a selection of ZHA projects and reflect different stages in ZHA's evolving design methodology.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the sustainable cork walls offer functional benefits such as acoustic absorption, thermal comfort, and anti-vibration properties, enhancing the workspace environment. The rich texture of expanded black cork brings a tactile warmth and an understated sophistication to the interiors.

Thalia, one of several custom designs developed by ZHA for its London offices, will be launched at Maison & Objet (M&O) Paris in January 2025, marking Gencork's 10-year anniversary and a key milestone in their innovative collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). This partnership pushes the boundaries of cork as a material in architecture and interior design, blending the low-tech sustainability of cork with high-tech computational design and industrial digital manufacturing processes.

This collaboration exemplifies the intersection of generative design and advanced fabrication techniques. Gencork's decade of expertise in using generative algorithms for unique cork walls made them an ideal partner for ZHA, reinforcing cork's adaptability to advanced design methodologies. The Thalia pattern reflects ZHA's years of research and development, displaying how computational design and sustainable materials can combine to create a product that is both aesthetically compelling and technically advanced.

Visit them at Maison&Objet, Hall 7 - Stand I163 J164 and celebrate their creative and sustainable journey with them.
