The most sought-after European interior designs come from these five countries

The Luxury Travel Book has analysed Google search trends and Instagram posts to identify the European countries shaping global interior design trends. Partnering with interior design expert Shiva Samiei, they explored the distinctive styles, materials, and layouts of the most influential locations by analysing popular properties in their portfolio.

French interior design continues to dominate the European market, with an average of 5,120 monthly Google searches and over 128,000 Instagram posts tagged with #Frenchinteriors. Parisian design, with its luxurious blend of high ceilings, ornate mouldings, parquet flooring, and contemporary art, remains a key inspiration for luxury homes. Shiva Samiei, an interior design expert, recommends recreating the French sophistication by 'incorporating gilded mirrors, neutral palettes, and vintage accents'. She adds that using luxurious textures like plush velvets and marble counters enhances the effortless refinement typical of this style.

In second place, British interior design is characterised by its timeless elegance, which combines historical features with contemporary flair. Receiving an average of 4,800 searches monthly, British interiors are popular for seamlessly blending custom millwork, statement lighting, and deep jewel tones, exemplified by properties like Henry's Townhouse. Social media showcases British luxury interiors through its unique use of colour, mixing bright hues with natural materials. As Shiva highlights, 'Traditional Georgian design speaks to a love for classic craftsmanship', with some preferring the ornate Rococo curves and marble surfaces of Georgian interiors.

Italian interiors, ranking third, offer rich velvets, Murano glass, and gilded details, creating an opulent atmosphere that continues to grow in popularity, with a 24% increase in searches for "Italy interior design". Shiva notes, 'In Venice, you'll find romantic opulence', while Tuscany boasts rustic sophistication with natural materials like terracotta tiles and wooden doors. The diversity of Italian styles, from romantic to rustic, reflects the country's regional differences, yet all share an emphasis on impeccable craftsmanship.

Danish interior design ranks fourth, drawing inspiration from natural light and minimalist, calming aesthetics. This style generates almost 4,000 searches per month, with Danish properties often creating tranquil, inviting spaces through warm, natural tones and wooden furniture. The concept of hygge, which focuses on cosy, welcoming interiors, has become globally popular, as seen in the 995,000 Instagram posts tagged #ScandinavianInterior. As Shiva explains, 'Design doesn't have to follow geographic boundaries', as seen in properties like Villa Puerto Pollensa in Spain, which seamlessly incorporates Danish elements to create a harmonious, relaxing environment.

Greek interior design, with its whitewashed finishes and curved architecture, rounds out the top five, seeing 4,800 monthly searches and a rise in Instagram posts. The style's coastal charm is popular for recreating a luxury Greek villa atmosphere, focusing on natural materials and bringing the outdoors inside. Shiva suggests, 'Focussing on whitewashed finishes, curved architecture, and natural materials' is key to achieving the Greek aesthetic at home.

The most sought-after European interior designs are French, British, Italian, Danish, and Greek. Interior expert Shiva Samiei also predicts that Italian and Portuguese styles will dominate in 2025. Italian designs continue to be admired for their craftsmanship and use of marble and wood, while Portuguese styles focus on sustainability, using natural materials in alignment with the eco-conscious living trend.
