Koko armchair, designed for Porada by Tollgard & Castellani

'We set out to create a comfortable armchair that didn’t have a huge footprint and that looked beautiful'

Koko armchair, designed for Porada by Tollgard & Castellani is the brand's first launch of 2025, presented during the Paris Design Week. Koko perfectly balances the rigidity of its shell and the ergonomics of the seat, representing a harmonious fusion of strength and lightness, design and functionality. Despite its compact shape, Koko offers significant ergonomic support thanks to its sculptural structure.

'Koko's profile is everything. We set out to create a comfortable armchair that didn't have a huge footprint and that looked beautiful from every angle; that felt effortless and almost floating; that offered a visual lightness belying its comfort.' says Staffan Tollgard, founder of Tollgard Studio.

From an aesthetic point of view, the minimalist design of the armchair is completed by an adjustable headrest that leans against the seat to complete its functionality; a matching pouf indispensable in moments of greater relaxation; and details in black chrome such as the discs on the feet and the counterweight of the back cushion.

The structure that supports and embraces the seat is designed in solid canaletta walnut, natural or stained. Filippo Castellani - product design director of Tollgard Studio - points out: 'Koko is made with lightness in mind. It balances a shapely hard shell with soft seating on a slender, angled base. Thanks to Porada's ability to work with wood, we created an elegant, sleek and engineered silhouette that offers enough support while maintaining the visual minimalism we were striving to achieve.'

A contemporary, timeless design that fits perfectly into modern, minimalist and sophisticated design spaces, thanks in part to the many leather and fabric options in the Porada collection.

The name Koko comes from the Japanese culture, meaning 'protected by the stork', an animal symbol of longevity and prosperity. This reference is reflected in the design of the armchair itself: the base is designed to evoke the silhouette of the stork's legs; a detail that not only enriches the aesthetics of the product, but also makes it a bearer of meaning by conveying a sense of strength and grace.
