Interview with Monica Zoli, Vice President Dino Zoli Group

'The domestic market is experiencing stagnation, while the contract market is very active, especially in the Middle and Far East'

'Dino Zoli Textile is the parent company of the Dino Zoli Group, founded by my father Dino Zoli in 1972 in Forlì,' says Monica Zoli, Vice President at the Dino Zoli Group. 'The company's core business ever since has been the research, study, design and production of excellent fabrics for upholstered furniture for various sectors, including Interior Design, Contract, Nautical and Hotellerie. We are mainly active in Europe, although distribution takes place in more than 60 countries worldwide thanks to partnerships with upholstered furniture manufacturers and distributors.' We interview her to know more about the company, its plans for 2025 and their recent exhibit at Heimtextil.

Can you tell us more about the journey of Dino Zoli Textile?
'The Group's diversified business is largely due to the enthusiasm and curiosity of my father, who transformed the company into a Ltd. company in the 1980s and invested part of the profits made in real estate. This gave him the opportunity in the 1990s, following an initial trip to Brazil for woodworking projects, to start Dino Zoli Brasil, a subsidiary of the Italian company, for the commercialisation in Brazil and the South American market of furnishing fabrics developed in Italy.

My joining the company and that of my brother Marco gave a further boost. I personally manage the commercial side and internal and external relations while Marco takes care of the creation, production and organisation of activities.

Today, the company produces and markets furnishing fabrics in wide ranges diversified by type, ready to be delivered quickly, one of the aspects of service that represents our strength. But our journey is not over. In 2000 we opened the Dino Zoli Arte Gallery, in 2007 the Dino Zoli Foundation dedicated to contemporary art, in 2008 the SocietĂ  agricola I Sabbioni, in 2011 we took over a company in Ravenna that dealt with lighting and integrated systems and founded DZ Engineering. Finally, in 2020 the Dino Zoli Group Holding was founded, bringing together all the various companies.'

How is the market right now? Are there any challenges?
'Certainly the domestic market, particularly in Europe, is experiencing a moment of stagnation, while the contract market is very active, especially for projects in the Middle East and Far East. For us, the challenge is to introduce the most important players in this field to the combination of innovation and reliability in supply service, an aspect that has always characterised us.'

You have been at Heimtextil this year. How was the fair?
'We are quite satisfied and, although not as effervescent as in the past, it remains an international fair that provides opportunities to meet both potential contacts in areas not covered by the existing sales network and new agents.

At the fair we exhibited our fabric collections: jacquard, chenille, velvet, flame retardant, leather look, print and quilted fabrics - indoor and outdoor, made from both 100% natural materials and fibres derived from recycled plastic materials, the result of in-depth research and the company's strong commitment to environmental protection.

In the REspect Collection, which includes fabrics created with recycled raw materials, not from virgin fibres, resistant and long-lasting, thanks to production processes that enhance the qualities of the fibres, the novelties were Over, a 100% recycled and recyclable polyester technical material (like the fabrics of the entire collection), leather-look with a cosy touch; Progress, an innovative expression of chenille; and finally Lunar with a three-dimensional texture and colouring in pastel shades.

In the Naturali Collection, the one most closely connected with nature, for which fibres such as cotton and linen are used, also obtained by the artisanal technique of maceration, which is combined with wool to bring out the most pleasant peculiarities of both fibres, the novelty was the Tailormade collection.

Intimacy and Avenue des Gobelin were the novelties of the Opera collection, designed for outdoor use but also perfect for indoor environments thanks to the special polypropylene fibre for outdoor use, declined in yarns exclusively developed thanks to the research of the company's textile technicians.

And to round off the novelties 2025 Acquago in polyester with almost total water repellency from Passion for Printing, the collection that more than any other makes it possible to satisfy customisation needs with tailor-made fabrics created for companies, architects, designers and contractors.'

Any other exciting plans for 2025 you can share?
'We have projects related to the development of new collections, particularly in outdoor materials, to name but one. We are working on studies involving the use of particular yarns, including trilobal polypropylene, to achieve three-dimensional effects by alternating this shiny yarn with matt ones, in textures and patterns of our own creation. We also have in the pipeline the creation, in some strategic markets, of subsidary to guarantee an even faster and more widespread delivery service.

An ongoing project and an exclusive element that characterises us is the great interaction between our business activities and that of our Dino Zoli Foundation, in which we channel our passion for art and all projects related to social issues. This gives rise to important bi-directional stimuli, as in the case of the exhibition 'Trame esplorative, un viaggio attraverso l'arazzo', in which the textile technique of tapestry becomes the means of expression of important artists, both historical and contemporary, and designers.

Another important area of use for the Dino Zoli Foundation concerns initiatives in the artistic sphere such as photography and theatre, and in the research and dissemination of social issues such as respect for the environment, gender equality and inclusion. These projects, which represent an objective pursued by the company, are also very important to me from a personal point of view. Indeed, I believe that companies are a fundamental element of society with the task of fulfilling this role with great and constant commitment.'
