Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025 is set to captivate audiences with its 63rd edition, scheduled from 8th to 13th April at Rho Fiera Milano. As part of an international road tour, the event recently made stops in Copenhagen and New York to preview its offerings and engage with key stakeholders in the design community. This year's highlights include two major installations: Villa Héritage by renowned architect Pierre-Yves Rochon and Mother by acclaimed artist Robert Wilson.
The New York event, supported by the ICE–ITA Italian Trade Agency, featured a morning press conference where Rochon unveiled Villa Héritage, a space designed to foster dialogue among the arts and provoke reflection on cultural transmission. Rochon's career spans 45 years, during which he has crafted luxurious interiors for prestigious hotel chains and fine dining establishments. His creation for the Salone promises to be a universal testament to the power of design.
In the afternoon, a presentation at Rizzoli Bookstore showcased Robert Wilson's project, Mother, which pays homage to Michelangelo's Rondanini Pietà. This installation will initiate a theatrical interplay with the Stabat Mater composed by Arvo Pärt, comprising a 30-minute sequence of music, lights, and images. Wilson described his artistic intent, stating, 'I set out to create my own vision of Michelangelo's unfinished masterpiece... a spiritual experience that moves something deep in us.'
Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, expressed excitement about presenting these significant projects in New York, highlighting the influence of both Rochon and Wilson in the realms of luxury design and the arts.
Additionally, the Euroluce International Lighting Forum will debut during the fair on 10th and 11th April, featuring a diverse array of speakers including lighting designers, botanists, and scientists. Directed by Annalisa Rosso, the forum will host masterclasses and discussions under the theme "Light for Life, Light for Spaces," aiming to explore the future of lighting through interdisciplinary collaboration. Notable participants include the Dutch duo Drift, plant neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso, and renowned lighting designer Hervé Descottes.
Following New York, the road tour will continue to Toronto, where it will further promote the upcoming Salone and its new communication campaign, "Thought for Humans." This initiative, crafted by Dentsu Creative Italy and photographed by Bill Durgin, seeks to illustrate the intricate relationship between the human body and materiality in design.
Founded in 1961, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile has evolved into a premier platform for promoting Italian furniture and design worldwide. It remains a highly anticipated event in the design calendar, showcasing innovation, creativity, and the cultural significance of furniture design.
With its blend of artistic installations, forward-thinking discussions, and a celebration of design heritage, Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025 promises to be an inspiring event that continues to shape the future of the design industry.
