Sergio Prieto’s designs at Maison&Objet 2025

'The pieces from DOVAIN Studio are not only functional but also serve as conversation starters'

At Maison et Objet 2025, DOVAIN Studio introduced several innovative pieces, designed by Sergio Prieto, that reflect his unique artistic approach to furniture design. These new collections merge the expressive qualities of modern art with the functionality of luxury furniture, creating statement pieces that push the boundaries of traditional design.

One of the stand-out pieces, the Mimo Sofa, is a sculptural masterpiece that draws inspiration from the bold, organic curves of 1970s design. Designed by Prieto, this sofa combines retro aesthetics with modern comfort. The sinuous, floating curves of the sofa reflect the freedom of seventies design while incorporating contemporary ergonomic engineering. Handcrafted by Portuguese artisans, the Mimo Sofa is available in premium upholstery options, transforming spaces into living art while ensuring exceptional comfort.

Another notable piece, The Cloud Mirror, showcases Prieto's ability to blend geometric abstraction with softness. This poetic design features a mirror surrounded by organic, pastel-toned upholstered elements that appear to float like fragments of a peaceful dream. The mirror's geometric composition maintains a sense of fluidity, and the luxurious tactile nature of the upholstery elevates it beyond a functional item to a sculptural artwork. The Cloud Mirror embodies Prieto's vision of where geometry and dreams meet.

The Tecla Sideboard is another striking design by Prieto, drawing inspiration from the Memphis Group movement of the 1980s. This sideboard combines bold geometry with contemporary luxury. Its distinctive silhouette features a refined frame and a dramatic piano key-inspired base. The sideboard offers generous storage with five integrated doors, and its interplay of a cream-coloured body and contrasting base creates a sophisticated dialogue. The Tecla Sideboard reflects both the revolutionary spirit of the Memphis era and DOVAIN's commitment to innovative design.

Sergio Prieto, born in Talavera de la Reina, Spain, in 1994, is known for his expressive design language that aims to evoke emotions through carefully curated colours and geometric shapes. His designs reflect his introspective nature and are heavily influenced by his international experiences in China, India, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Prieto's work at DOVAIN Studio is not just furniture; it is a manifestation of his personal philosophy, blending art, decoration, and contemporary design culture.

Prieto's approach sets his work apart in the luxury furniture landscape. His designs combine sophistication and simplicity, where every detail is thoughtfully chosen to create pieces that are both timeless and contemporary. The pieces from DOVAIN Studio are not only functional, but also serve as conversation starters, inviting emotional engagement with those who encounter them.

In his collections, Prieto has successfully crafted a signature style that is instantly recognisable yet impossible to replicate, making each piece a true embodiment of luxury that dares to be different.
