A reflection as this year's first Formex closes its doors

'There was an incredible energy, the fair’s positive feeling is still lingering'

When this year's first Formex came to a close, words like "festive atmosphere," "optimism," and "sales records" were buzzing among exhibitors and visitors. Held from January 17–19, the weekend that offered many new initiatives, new exhibitors, and enthusiastic visitors.

'We know that many in the industry face challenges and that it takes a lot to be part of a major fair like Formex. Therefore, it's truly fantastic to see how much business is being done on-site, the connections being made, the knowledge being shared, and the collaborations between brands. Once again, we are proven how incredibly important an industry fair like Formex is, that confidence is greater than in many years, and that we must meet in real life. For real. Rarely has waiting in lines, crowded spaces, and constant chatter felt so wonderful as it does now,' says Sonja Björk Ebert, project manager for Formex.

And many others are pleased as well. Miljögården, a returning exhibitor, saw an increase in sales, and Joakim Wihlborg, CEO of Miljögården, describes a purchasing joy among visitors that he hasn't experienced in a long time.

'People were eager. I think it's because times have been a bit better, but also because of the weekend and how successful Friday was,' says Joakim Wihlborg.

Gabriel Isip from the family business Filipiniana is also positively surprised by how well it went. 'There was an incredible energy and great atmosphere. The fair's positive feeling is still lingering,' he says.

During this year's first Formex, the focus on sustainability continued, which was evident in the Sustainability Awards competition and the much discussed Café Conversation Piece, covering 200 square meters. The café was partially built using materials from previous fairs, which will also be saved for future events. A new feature was the Sustainability Stand exhibition, which will become a recurring space for different brands to showcase inspiring and good examples.

This time, Formex also chose to open up to the public and anyone interested in interior design, even those not working in the industry. For a few hours, they were invited to enjoy the main exhibition in the entrance hall, trends, and well-known industry profiles. A successful concept that also aligns with the openness and welcoming nature that Formex represents.

The next Formex will return August 26–28 at Stockholmsmässan in Stockholm.
