Jørgen Kjær Jacobsen has announced his retirement from Gabriel after 41 years of service, stepping down as Chairman of the Board on 29 January 2025. His tenure has seen the Danish textile company transform into a globally recognised group with operations across Europe, APAC, and the US.
Jacobsen joined Gabriel in 1983 as a young executive and quickly became a key figure in its growth. Recalling his introduction by founder Robert Gabriel, he stated, "It was a dream come true to become part of an organisation that needed leadership improvements and innovation." Over the years, he held roles including Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and CEO, leading the company for 25 years before assuming the role of Chairman.
Under his leadership, Gabriel has expanded significantly, overcoming economic challenges while maintaining its founding values. He credited the company's long-term success to 'the hard work and dedication of so many people' and acknowledged the impact of past and present colleagues. He also paid tribute to Poul H. Lauritsen, who chaired the board from 1981 to 2010 and remained an advisor until his passing in June 2024.
Jacobsen reflected that 'the most rewarding part has always been the people', highlighting teamwork, innovation, and shared achievements as the driving forces behind Gabriel's progress. While retiring from Gabriel, he intends to remain active in privately owned business ventures and expressed gratitude to his colleagues for making his time at the company 'so rewarding.'
As Gabriel marks nearly 174 years since its founding, Jacobsen wished the company continued success, stating, 'Building something meaningful together takes time, patience, and a shared belief in doing the right things.'
