Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) has announced the expansion of its 2025 edition, which will take place from 20 – 22 May, marking its 14th year as a leading global design festival. The event is set to be the largest yet, introducing three new venues in London's EC1 area. These include The Charterhouse, a historic medieval site, St Bartholomew the Great, London's oldest parish church, and Studio Smithfield, a Grade II listed building above Smithfield Market. These additions will create a vibrant new district for the festival, offering a blend of contemporary design and historic settings.
The festival will feature a wide array of curated events across over 16 venues and more than 160 local showrooms. One of the stand-out attractions will be a major public artwork by renowned British artist Alex Chinneck, commissioned for Charterhouse Square. Known for his surreal, interactive sculptures, Chinneck's installation promises to be a highlight of the event.
Marlon Cera-Marle, Design Division Director at Media 10, the event's organiser, expressed excitement for the expanded programme. 'The new venues, including some of London's most historic landmarks, will provide a stunning backdrop for presenting some of the world's most exciting design brands,' he said. This year's festival will also feature international pavilions and media outlets, further enhancing its global reach.
In addition to the new venues, CDW will showcase over 350 design brands, including major names like Roche Bobois, Benchmark, and Ercol, alongside emerging talent. The festival will also host the CDW Product Awards, in partnership with US publisher Sandow, and offer a series of design talks inside St Bartholomew Church.
Other returning venues include Clerkenwell Green, Design Fields, and Project, each highlighting various aspects of design from furniture to lighting and architectural hardware. The event will also offer a Fringe programme, featuring creative workshops, and a bespoke digital map to help visitors navigate the festival's expansive offerings.
CDW 2025 promises to be a major event for design professionals and enthusiasts alike, with more details to be announced as the festival approaches.
