The Danish furniture and home accessories retailer JYSK is set to significantly expand its presence in Spain, posing a challenge to established giants like Ikea. The company, which currently operates 153 stores across the country, plans to open over 30 new locations during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Cities including Castellón, Huelva, Alicante, Almería, and Valencia will see new stores, increasing accessibility to JYSK's Scandinavian-inspired designs.

JYSK's rapid growth has already been evident, with eight new stores launched between September and December 2024 in cities such as Murcia, Cantabria, Pamplona, Madrid, Jaén, Granada, Pontevedra, and Cádiz. The company also aims to boost employment, creating 400 new jobs in Spain and Portugal in 2025.
Carlos Haba, director of JYSK Spain and Portugal, stated that the long-term goal is to reach 300 stores nationwide. The brand is known for offering "accessible Scandinavian design" with the Danish "hygge" concept at its core. Its balance of quality and affordability has been a key factor in its expansion.
Founded in 1979 in Denmark, JYSK has grown into a global retailer with over 3,000 stores in 48 countries. It entered the Spanish market in 2009 with its first store in Cartagena and has since steadily increased its presence.
As competition intensifies in Spain's furniture and home décor sector, JYSK's expansion signals a major shift in the market landscape.
