UK Homeowners could lose thousands over the wrong paint colour

A study has revealed that homeowners could increase their property's value by up to five per cent in 2025 through strategic paint choices. Experts state that light and neutral shades create a "modern, spacious feel" that appeals to buyers, while garish colours such as bright pink and neon green may reduce value.

With the UK average house price at £267,700, a poor colour scheme could cost sellers around £13,000. Good Move director Nima Ghasri advises that "first impressions count" and recommends warm neutrals like beige and grey for a "cosy and sophisticated" look. Soft whites with subtle tints are also preferred over pure white, which can yellow over time.

While black accents can add sophistication, experts warn against excessive use, as it may make spaces feel smaller. Light colours also enhance natural light and help buyers visualise their own décor, increasing the likelihood of a sale.
