Giant duck mascot of bathroom store explodes over Glasgow amid storm chaos

A giant inflatable duck, the mascot of Glasgow-based bathroom retailer Big Duck Bathrooms, was destroyed during Storm Eowyn, scattering polystyrene filling across the residential area of Dennistoun. The storm, which brought winds of up to 90mph, caused the mascot, reportedly named "Big Egg," to burst on 24 January.

Local residents raised concerns about the potential impact of the debris on wildlife and drainage systems. Some claimed to have found polystyrene balls up to a kilometre away, while others reported sightings as far as Pollock, several miles from the site.

Business owner Cornelious Kelly, known as Connie, apologised to residents and reassured them that the polystyrene was "plant based" and would biodegrade within weeks. He stated that the company had been working "into the night for several days" to clear the debris.

Kelly, known for his unconventional marketing tactics, has previously drawn attention with stunts such as towing a bathtub filled with mannequins and riding a hot pink motorbike dressed in a duck costume. Following the mascot's destruction, he launched a public vote to determine whether residents would support reinflating "Big Egg."
