Danish furniture industry fears impact of Trump's tariffs

Concerns are growing in Denmark's business sector over potential US tariffs on European goods, following repeated warnings from Donald Trump. While initial tariffs targeted Mexico and Canada with a 25 percent levy, a 30-day pause has since been introduced. However, uncertainty over a possible trade war remains high.

Among those affected is furniture company BoConcept, whose CEO Mikael Kruse Jensen expressed fears that tariffs would force price increases in the US market, potentially reducing sales. He stated that the company is seeking alternative revenue streams in Canada and Mexico to mitigate potential losses.

BoConcept had previously set up limited production in Mexico in 2024 to shorten supply chains to the US but has since focused on optimising European distribution. The company operates 330 stores in 67 countries, with production based in Ølgod. It is owned by the 3I Group capital fund.
