Seminar during Flanders Flooring Days

What does colour mean for your products?

Flanders Flooring Days is more than just a networking event—it's a place to discover fresh inspiration and gain valuable insights from industry leaders and seminars. Among the standout speakers this year is renowned color expert Judith Van Vliet, who returns once again to share her expertise.

But don't expect a simple trend forecast or a few generic tips. Judith's passion for colour runs deep—she explores its cultural significance, psychological impact, and how it interacts with different materials. Sustainability, culture, psychology, and personal taste all come together in her unique approach to colour philosophy. Don't miss her seminar during this fourth edition of Flanders Flooring Days.

When asked about her work, Judith explains: "I help clients navigate the world of colour. Through my company, The Color Authority, I advise businesses on colour choices and what they communicate. Colour is deeply connected to culture and psychology—it can convey a message on a profound level. I identify trending colours, create colour maps, and research how colours interact with materials. A colour may look one way on a Pantone card but appear completely different in its final application."

An introduction to colour theory
Judith shares her views in her podcast 'The Color Authority' and as a speaker at trade events, such as Milan Design Week. In 2024, she captivated audiences at the third edition of Flanders Flooring Days with her seminar "Do You Speak Color?"

"One thing that always stands out to me is that people are afraid of colour," she says. "I want to help them understand how personal colour is. I often start my seminars by asking attendees to picture the colour red. The shade they imagine depends on their background, context, and culture—it's never the same for everyone."

During her sessions, Judith takes audiences through different colour families and explains their meanings across various cultures. By exploring the history of colour, she helps businesses understand the complexity of choosing the right shades for their branding and products.

"Context is everything," she explains. "Think of the warm colours often seen in Spain—they appear much paler under the Belgian light. Choosing the right colour goes far beyond following trends or simply incorporating the 'colour of the year.' Many people don't fully grasp how colour functions, which is why I focus on colour theory and emphasize the importance of the materials being used."

A colourful network
Colour theory, trends and the impact of sustainability on colours are just some of the topics that will be covered during Judith Van Vliet's talk at the 2025 edition.

Want to find out more about the latest flooring trends? Judith Van Vliet will share her insights on Wednesday 4 June 2025, during the upcoming edition of Flanders Flooring Days at Kortrijk Xpo.
