Ikea becomes matchmaker for Valentine's Day event with a first date in bed

A special Valentine's Day event will offer singles the chance to be matched based on sleep compatibility for a first date in bed. Taking place on 14th February in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh, the initiative will allow nine couples to enjoy a romantic dinner in a furnished showroom setting.

IKEA has partnered with the dating app Breeze to pair participants based on sleep habits, using its "Six Sleep Essentials," a formula developed from 80 years of research. Factors such as mattress firmness, temperature preferences, and duvet thickness will be considered to match couples.

Interested singles can register via Breeze by 10th February, submitting details of their sleep habits. Nine couples will be selected and notified by 11th February, with 24 hours to confirm their participation. On the evening of 14th February, the matched couples will meet for their date, which includes an IKEA meatball dinner in a bedroom showroom.

Research highlights the importance of sleep compatibility in relationships, with 8.4 million people in the UK having ended a relationship over poor bed habits. Gen Z is the most affected, with 25% reporting sleep-related breakups. Duvet hogging is the most common issue at 46%, followed by disturbed sleep (31%) and fidgeting (29%).
