Wood wholesaler expands operations in Sweden with major acquisition

A Danish hardwood wholesaler has experienced significant growth in Sweden since launching a dedicated sales organisation nearly two years ago. Despite a downturn in the construction sector, the company's strategy of investing during challenging times has led to growth of 400 percent.

Global Timber, which previously had limited sales in Sweden, has strengthened its market position by acquiring a new location in Vaggeryd. The new facility, situated 30 minutes from its sales office, includes drying rooms, warehouses, and production facilities. This expansion enables the company to process wood from fresh cut to kiln dried, offering customers greater flexibility and an expanded product range.

According to CEO Anders Bitzer, the investment provides 'better service and a stronger product range' for Swedish customers. He emphasised that the company's low starting point in the market meant it was less impacted by Sweden's sluggish construction activity. The steady increase in customers has driven substantial revenue growth.

To manage the new operations, Global Timber has established a Swedish subsidiary, Global Timber Sverige AB, which will work closely with its Danish headquarters. The company also operates storage facilities in Germany and Aarhus.

The expansion reflects a long-term commitment to the Swedish market, positioning the wholesaler for further growth as construction activity recovers.
