Foreign workers fill labour gap in Albania's furniture industry

The Albanian furniture industry is increasingly turning to foreign workers due to high demand and a domestic labour shortage. The rise in new construction projects has driven demand for furniture, but local manufacturers are struggling to keep up.

'The work has become very difficult, as we not only operate domestically, but also abroad. Due to increased demand, we are hiring foreign workers, mainly from the Middle East,' said Gentjan Margjini, owner of a real estate agency in the capital.

A decade of mass emigration has made it difficult for businesses to find local labour, pushing them to seek foreign workers to sustain operations. Simultaneously, furniture imports have reached record levels as businesses try to meet rising demand.
