Set in Munich's dynamic Westend district, Marriott Hotel City West is one of the newest facilities opened by the hotel colossus in the German city. 398 rooms and suites combine here with 2,440 square meters of space, including outdoor spaces, dedicated to meetings, conferences, and corporate and private events: among others, an exclusive 900-square-meter ballroom, 20 areas equipped with advanced technology, and a rooftop terrace. Finally, the four-star destination is completed by a bar & lounge area, a café and "Assoluto Ristorante & Vineria," as a tribute to Italian cuisine.
The Nora seating collection, designed by Michael Schmidt for Bross, was selected for this area of the structure: in two different shades of brown, with velvet or soft fabric upholstery, they are juxtaposed with tables with square and rectangular tops in the same nuance. Ergonomic, the line of armchairs owes its recognisability to the solid ashwood frame, selected in the heat-treated finish, which extends to define the lower part of the armrest, enveloping, while the soft upholstered shell ensures maximum comfort.
The deep and warm palette used for Nora pervades the room, then enriched by cobalt and petrol inserts for the vases placed on the long bookcase, dividing the rooms, and the decorative Art Nouveau-inspired stained glass window, which creates vibrant, permeable surfaces.
The entire interior of the hotel was curated by Studio Lux Berlin under the sign of harmonising antithetical references: the inspiration was the historical-cultural context of the place, translated into a mix of balanced contrasts, between the echo of the details of industrial archaeology buildings and the new cosmopolitan look of the district.
For example, the use of etched or gilded metal finishes for the lighting or the choice of exposed brick for some rooms, such as the lobby or the cocktail bar, recall the German industrial revolution period and the factories, part of which still exist. These references are then intermingled with wooden surfaces and panelling, stained glass portions hyper-decorated with floral motifs, warm shades of light and neutral nuances, all of which combine to delineate an intimate, welcoming place.
