Since BORA revolutionised the 'downdraft cooktop extractor' in 2007, the name has been associated with innovative built-in kitchen appliances. Now, the BORA sink introduces another feature in kitchens: at the touch of a button, water flows down from all four sides of the sink at the same time to clean it and the bottom in just seconds.
When the idea was first conceived, the principle was clever and convincing - but difficult to put into practice. Now it looks incredibly simple when the water rises from the edge of the sink, flows down evenly along all four sides of the sink, comes together and catches all the dirt particles along the way. Cristadur, the patented quartz composite material used to make the sink, supports this laminar water flow in its self-cleaning work. For even more hygiene in the kitchen.
Putting technical excellence into practice
One of the challenges for the developers was that instead of converging in the centre of the sink, the water should converge at the drain filter at the back. To achieve this, a cleverly designed flow profile distributes water evenly across the seamless, matt surface structure.
The self-cleaning function is activated by pressing the button specially designed for the BORA sink on the head of the tap. This is perfectly placed, so users do not have to reach around the hot water coming out of the tap. The head also features a sensor with an LED that goes from blue to red to indicate the water temperature. The different water intervals are another ingenious detail that emerged from the field tests. A short press on the button activates the self-cleaning function for the duration of the pressure. This enables short bursts of water. A long press activates the touch sensor continuously for 5 seconds and automatically activates the rinse function for another 15 seconds.
Ingenious functions in a timeless design
The BORA Sink has a beautiful, unobtrusive black finish, is impervious to water temperatures up to 180 degrees and suitable for combination with all conventional taps. To enable the installation of a functional tap, for example from Quooker, the sink is also available without the matt black, powder-coated BORA Sink tap. In that case, the self-cleaning function is operated by a touch sensor that can be placed freely under the worktop.
Like all BORA products, the BORA sink has a timeless minimalist design. The overflow is deliberately placed on the opposite side so that the jet black finish is clearly visible. The high-quality undermount sink is manufactured by SCHOCK in the Bavarian Forest and requires no additional installation depth, so standard drainage systems can be easily installed underneath. BORA designed the tap itself and commissioned a prestigious manufacturer for production. The understated design also fits perfectly with the BORA X BO, the professional steam oven for the home.
BORA is revolutionising the kitchen as a living space with yet another extraordinary product, fully in line with the company's mission to provide users with the best cooking experience. BORA's clear belief that this includes not only meal preparation, but also shopping, food storage and post-processing, is reflected in the various online and offline communication tools the company uses to offer inspiration to a wide range of cooking enthusiasts.
