Interview with Sarah Oakley of Sofa Connections

'The market in 2025 is looking promising'

In a recent conversation with Sarah Oakley of Sofa Connections, we explored the company's recent experience at the January Furniture Show 2025, and what lies ahead for this family-run British furniture brand.

Adapting to market challenges
Sofa Connections has been undergoing a transformation in recent years, moving away from its traditional business model to work directly with retailers. While 2024 was a challenging year for the furniture market, the company remained resilient.

'It was challenging and quiet,' Sarah admitted. 'But we had already changed our business direction completely, so it was always going to be a bit quiet as we adjusted.' Despite economic uncertainty, Sofa Connections participated in key trade shows since we last spoke, including Longpoint and the recent January Furniture Show—their largest showcase yet. 'It was a big step-up for us, even compared to Manchester,' Sarah said. 'But we had a great time. We got lots of new customers, took lots of orders, and received amazing feedback. People appreciated that the furniture was well-priced and of good quality.'

Standout products at JFS
Among the collections showcased, several pieces gained notable attention. 'Our Blakedown was probably the winner,' Sarah revealed. 'With its mustard scatter cushions, people loved it.'

Other standout pieces included the Sherwood, which was introduced at Longpoint last year but gained strong interest at JFS, and the Belfry, a customer favourite. The company also debuted the Drayton, a new scatter back sofa that was very well received.

Models Belfry and Blakedown were popular choices at the moment, according to Sarah.

Looking ahead: growth and expansion
Sofa Connections is already planning for the future. 'Our next show is in Manchester in July, and we're already rebooked for JFS 2026,' Sarah confirmed. While no new collections have been announced yet, the company is in the early stages of developing fresh designs.

One significant change in 2025 will be a factory relocation. 'We're moving to a bigger unit in April or May,' Sarah shared. 'It's only 10 minutes away from where we are now, but it gives us more space to grow.'

Despite recent economic difficulties, Sarah sees signs of improvement in the market in 2025. 'We've already had repeat orders coming through,' she said. 'It's looking promising.'
