Bankrupt Danish furniture company sells inventory to repay creditors after bankruptcy

A Danish furniture retailer, has managed to sell off a significant portion of its remaining inventory following its bankruptcy, with proceeds amounting to several million kroner. The bankruptcy estate's trustee, Morten Elbrønd, stated that between 3,000 and 4,000 people visited the store and warehouse over the weekend to purchase discounted furniture. Approximately 35-40% of the inventory was sold.

Bolighuset Werenberg, a 60-year-old family business, went bankrupt in October 2024 due to financial struggles, including a failed digital transformation and the broader economic crisis. The company had reported losses exceeding DKK 18 million earlier in the year. The estate is burdened with debts of DKK 41.6 million, with Danske Bank alone owed DKK 25 million.

The trustee initially sought to sell the entire inventory to a single buyer, but was unable to secure a reasonable offer. As a result, a public bankruptcy sale was held to recover as much as possible for creditors. Given the high turnout and sales figures, a second bankruptcy sale is planned for 21 and 22 February.
