Polish furniture industry faces declining production and rising costs

The Polish furniture industry continues to struggle with declining production, as revealed by data from the Central Statistical Office. According to the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Furniture Manufacturers and research agency B+R Studio, the industry recorded PLN 64 billion in sold production in 2024, marking a 4% year-on-year decline.

Exports, traditionally the sector's driving force, dropped by 6% in 2024, while imports increased by over 10%, reaching a value of €3.63 billion. Additionally, sales profitability fell to 5.2%, and sector employment declined by more than 13%.

Rising costs remain a major challenge for Polish furniture manufacturers. Electricity prices in Poland are reported to be "4-5 times more expensive than in Asia," significantly impacting production costs. The industry also faces restricted access to wood, with the Ministry of Climate and Environment limiting supply, which is expected to decrease by 2-3% in 2025, potentially driving up prices further.

Weak consumer confidence in Europe continues to affect furniture sales, with prices in 2024 lower than the previous year. Analysts suggest that to remain competitive, companies must explore new export markets, invest in online sales, and focus on innovation in technology and design.

Experts highlight that firms adapting to shifting consumer preferences and embracing modern solutions will gain an advantage in an increasingly competitive global market.
