Cooloo has been named a winner of the Fair Future Challenge, a competition recognising Dutch start-ups that offer sustainable and socially responsible consumer products and services. Out of 758 applicants, Cooloo was selected as one of the five winners, receiving €100,000 from the DOEN Foundation in partnership with Impact Hub Amsterdam.
The challenge seeks to empower Dutch entrepreneurs in promoting sustainable consumer habits. Ricco Fiorito, Commercial Circular Director at Cooloo, explained the company's innovative approach: 'Cooloo tackles waste with Endless Life® technology, repairing and refurbishing furniture and floors using local waste materials. In the Netherlands, 247 million kg of furniture is discarded yearly, yet only 10% is recycled. To change this, we aim to implement our technology in Circular Craft Centers, where furniture is reused instead of burned. This reduces waste while creating local, social, and sustainable jobs that benefit both people and the planet.'
The initiative encourages entrepreneurs to drive positive change, and Cooloo's focus on reusing discarded furniture aligns with the challenge's goal of promoting sustainability and social impact. The company's work also highlights the importance of using residual materials, such as leather, cork, jeans, and stone, in combination with bio-based binders to create circular furniture and construction materials.
Cooloo joins four other winners in creating a more sustainable world, reinforcing the potential of circular economy solutions in addressing waste and environmental challenges.
