Yorkshire remains UK's leading hub for bed manufacturing

Yorkshire and the Humber continue to dominate the UK's bed manufacturing sector, accounting for 61% of all VAT- and PAYE-registered bed manufacturers in the country. However, the number of bed manufacturers in the region declined slightly last year, with 150 businesses reported in 2024, down by five compared to 2023.

Despite this decrease, the region's share of the industry has remained stable, maintaining its position as the primary hub for bed production in the UK.

The overall number of VAT/PAYE-registered bed manufacturers across the UK has grown, with 245 companies recorded in 2024, an increase of 90 compared to the post-Brexit period. Yorkshire's share of the sector has increased over the years, growing from 50% in 2017. In contrast, other regions such as the North West saw a decline in market share, with 25 manufacturers now representing 10% of the UK total, down from 13% in 2017.

The West Midlands follows as the third-largest region for bed manufacturing, contributing 6% of the UK's total with 15 manufacturers. Despite a slight reduction in businesses, Yorkshire remains firmly the largest manufacturing base for beds in the UK.
