IKEA expects market recovery by 2026 amid ongoing challenges

CEO van Inter Ikea: 'Decided to focus entirely on kitchens this year'

Ikea is anticipating a rebound in the global furniture market by 2026, following a decline in consumer spending. Despite a challenging market in 2024, with a 5.1% drop in France's furniture sector, the company remains optimistic. Jon Abrahamsson Ring, CEO of Inter Ikea, noted that 'furniture spending has decreased in all of our 63 markets' over the past two years.

The company, which generates an annual turnover of €45 billion, continues to focus on maintaining affordable prices, particularly through a streamlined product range. Ikea has also reaffirmed its commitment to physical stores, even as online sales have risen dramatically, accounting for 26% of total revenue in 2024. The brand is particularly emphasising kitchen products this year, as part of its strategy to stay competitive in a tough environment.

In addition to price adjustments, Ikea is expanding its presence in new markets, particularly in Europe, which remains its most significant sales region. Although the company has recently slowed its international expansion, having entered 19 new countries since 2010, it continues to open new stores to drive growth. France is the third largest market for the brand, after Germany and the United States.

The company is aiming for growth in 2026, bolstered by its diversified approach, combining physical retail with a robust e-commerce strategy. Despite current market conditions, Ikea has managed to maintain or even gain market share.
